Xavier Carlos Cordero, of Methuen, died "peacefully" at age 20 in Buffalo, New York, according to his obituary.
Cordero spent his childhood in Savannah, Georgia and Worcester, Massachusetts before moving to Methuen.
He was a high school athlete, participating on the wrestling, golf, and track teams while attending Methuen High School.
He graduated in 2021 and enrolled in Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Cordero stayed busy with many hobbies and passions. He loved to travel and spent his free time golfing, fishing, hunting, working out, and playing video games.
"His smile could light up a room," read his obituary. "He never knew a stranger, and his outgoing nature led him to touch so many people’s lives."
Cordero's family turned to their support system to help with the costs associated with his "final farewell" by creating a GoFundMe that has raised over $2,000 in two days.
The fundraiser described Cordero as, a son, a brother, a friend, a light in everyone’s life.
"He was loved by everyone who met him and always met everyone with a smile," the fundraiser campaign description said.
"He was a beautiful person inside and out," wrote one GoFundMe donor.
Visiting hours and services for Cordero are scheduled for Sunday, July 9, and Monday, July 10.
